Bradley University Offers Halal Food Services

Peoria, Illinois (News CAIRO) - Bradley University have established a new kosher food service to meet the food needs of Muslim students.

Bradley University Party said that they believed to be the first University in Illinois that provide a similar service.

The students can get sandwiches and pizza that meets the guidelines of Islamic rule, and the service will soon be expanded, include additional options such as bread, sausage and chicken meatball.

Recently, an estimated 40 students have benefited from these services.

Propose a kosher food service in the University of Bradley has become a top priority among the student leaders for some time.



"No matter where the background of Muslim students are from, they will feel so comfortable being here and so appreciate this service, because they grew up with a way to eat kosher," said Bilaluddin Mohammed, president of the Association of Muslim Students at Bradley University.

Mohammed last summer to meet with the Executive Director of University Food Services, Ron Gibson to start work on the service.

Gibson has spent the entire time in his career to accommodate the culinary needs of the multicultural university campuses.

According to Bradley, brought the leadership of Gibson, the school's offer has expanded dramatically this year, including a successful kosher service was launched in August.
"We realized there was a diverse group on college campuses across the country, thus helping the process of recruiting new students, we want to offer foods that are more familiar to groups of young adults," said Gibson.

Bradley is an intermediate institution enrolling approximately 5,000 undergraduate students and 750 graduate students in a campus area of 85 hectares.

More than 100 courses offered, including leberal arts and sciences, business, communications, education, engineering, fine arts and performing arts, and health sciences.

Bradley University is not the only University in the United States that serves kosher food service in the campus environment. California's Stanford University campus also provides the same services since two years ago.

"Muslims are very much food is available in several places on campus," said Shahryar Khan, a devout Muslim who is also a computer studies student, told IslamOnline.net news agency.

Khan also said that the variation of kosher food on campus is good enough and the price per meal around 10 dollars, affordable for many students.

"The problem is the only food we had was not immediately available. Halal food can be provided only upon request. But this is not a big problem. This is probably caused by a number of Muslim students is relatively small," Khan explains.

For Muhammad Baqir, a student at Harvard University in Massachusetts, the number of Muslim students has stimulated a lot of kosher food presence on campus.

"The support from wealthy Arab countries have expanded the way to get a wide variety of halal food with prices cheaper in general campus halls them."

Not only kosher, Baqir said that one can find almost every type of food such as kebabs east goats, chickens baryani, and falafel sandwiches on campus booths.

Ebad Rahman, another student from the University of Massachusetts, proud of the variety of kosher food on campus. "Now we have a good variety and taste dri whole world," he said.
